Learning to tie shoes can be a real adventure for kids (and parents!). While practice and patience are key, sometimes having the right tools can make all the difference in turning those tricky moments into successful ones. As a pediatric occupational therapist, I'm always on the lookout for simple solutions that truly help, and today I want to share one of my favorites: "Easy Tie" Laces! As a matter of fact, I've used these laces in the clinic for the past 10+ years.
One of the biggest frustrations for new shoe-tying learners is dealing with laces that are too soft, floppy, or just won't hold their shape. That's where "Easy Tie" Laces come to the rescue! These laces have a wonderful stiffness to them, almost as if your grandmother had put starch on them in the wash. This firmness is incredibly helpful because it prevents the laces from collapsing or folding over when your child is trying to form those tricky "bunny loops." This simple feature can significantly reduce frustration and help little hands build confidence with each step.
But there's another brilliant feature that makes "Easy Tie" Laces stand out: they're designed with one color on one half of the lace and a different color or pattern on the other half! This visual distinction is a game-changer. When your child is learning to cross one lace over the other, or trying to figure out which lace "sneaks" under the "X," the clear color contrast makes it so much easier for them to see and distinguish between the laces. This visual clarity supports their motor planning and understanding of the sequence, making the whole process less confusing and more intuitive.
